FAQs
Proportional throttle and steering — how far you move the trigger is how much you get, instead of full-on or nothing. Metal-shock suspension, a four-wheel-drive chassis, high-grip rubber tyres, and a large 1500mAh pack that gives it real pace. It is also serviceable: parts come apart, wear items are replaceable, and our Customer Success team supports it for the life of the product. That combination is what makes a car hobby grade rather than a toy. Four of ours qualify — Apex, Doughty and Gazer in the high-speed range, and Roxie, our 1:20 crawler.
Up to 40+ km/h. That is a headline figure on a smooth, flat surface with a fully charged pack — on grass or gravel you will see less, and the car slows as the battery drains. It is genuinely quick, quick enough that it wants open space and an older child or an adult driving it. If you want a number you can plan around rather than a headline, expect strong performance for the first two-thirds of a charge.
Longer than our smaller cars, because the pack is much bigger — 1500mAh against the 500mAh in our entry drift cars. Expect two to three hours from flat depending on the model, against 60 to 90 minutes for a drift car. It is worth knowing before the first run, and it is the main reason owners of these cars keep a second pack charged.
It is not waterproof and it is not sealed. A little water on the ground is completely fine — a damp patch or a shallow puddle will not cause a problem. What matters is that water must not get inside the motor; a submerged car may stop working, because water can get in and short it. Drive on wet ground, avoid standing water, dry it off afterwards.
Doughty runs a motor at each end of the chassis rather than one driving both axles through a shaft. That splits the work, so there is more torque available for climbing and rough ground and less strain on any single motor. You feel it most where grip is uneven — loose dirt, a slope, a kerb — and it is the reason this one pulls harder out of trouble than a single-motor 4x4 of the same size.
